Scare Tactics Used By Media About Student Loan Debt

Professor Kristan Venegas recently wrote a post on 21st century scholar about the scare tactics used by media about student loan debt.  She tries to point out both sides of the story and how one can read past the sensationalized headlines of the student loan debt stories.

‘Continuing to read, “You will have massive amounts of debt that will take you decades to pay back” feels to me like a scare tactic—I’m tired of reading “go to college; live in debt” messages—there have to be other ways. And I don’t think the answer is working three part time jobs, skipping meals, or other drastic measures like those. I’m really excited to be a part of a research project that is going to explore those other pathways. More on this in the months to come.’
